A Prophetic Voice
Every day, the missionary Church walks alongside real people, confronting the forces of evil that have been present throughout human history. Following the path of Jesus—who said, “I was hungry, and you fed me...” (Mt. 25:35ff). Like the prophets of Israel, who received confirmation from Christ's own actions, the Church is called to a prophetic mission of justice. The Church must stand by the side of humankind, to unmask the roots of injustice and help overcome the inhuman relationships that dominate so much of society. The Comboni Missionaries have a long history of men committed and who have given great sacrifice in this struggle.
Our Comboni communities seek to be centres of support, fostering and amplifying efforts toward human dignity and liberation. Each community is actively engaged in tangible projects of solidarity, particularly with the poor and the voiceless. Creativity was a hallmark of St. Daniel Comboni’s mission—so much so that some thought him reckless for the relentless energy he poured into exposing the injustices he witnessed in Africa. Yet he remained tireless in rallying supporters and volunteers to join the fight for justice. His spirit continues to inspire our work today.
