Listening

When looking at what can make us more effective missionaries the main point that stands out again and again is that of listening.

* The need for a faith-filled listening voice of the Spirit in the events and situations of our world.

* The need to be especially alert to the cry of the poorest and most abandoned who have not heard the Good News.

* The importance of a welcoming attitude and practice in our houses and communities so as to create a climate of friendly and deep exchange.

The missionary learns from experience in the missions, that the way may be long, and sometimes apparently a slow road but respectful listening is where the event of mission can happen. Only when we listen to people, do we give concrete and convincing expression to our convictions ~ that their path is our path and that we hold them in the deepest respect, as brothers and sisters. We also experience how mission is sharing ~ it is not just giving but also receiving!
