Prayer is living in the presence of the Lord

To pray is to live in the presence of the Lord and for that reason, it is a time to cultivate a special relationship with Him. In prayer we grow in our understanding of the world in which we live, revising our scale of values over which we build our existence, organise our life and our future ~ distinguishing what is fundamental and what is secondary. It's this relationship that helps us distance ourselves from selfish attitudes so that we might accept those that come from God.

The Lord prefers that we discover our position and outlook, helped by His Spirit, like it was the fruit of our own intuition (See Jn 14:26). At any rate, prayer will ask some change in our attitudes, calling for a conversion. This is what happened to Peter when he baptised the centurion Cornelius (Acts 10: 1-48) and what happens to all who accept a vocation of service!
