The Beat of a Different Drum
Often, taking decisions implies rejecting what the majority says, it's very much like swimming against the current. The time we live in is marked by rapid changes, many following whatever is in fashion. It costs much to take options that our contemporaries do not seem to share, "to follow the beat of a different drum". To let ourselves be led by the opinion of others is like floating along, on top of the water, letting the various currents determine our direction. In truth, leaders are those who take their positions whether they are equal to or different from the majority ~ are you a leader with regards to your life direction?
To swim against the current, one must have a clear goal ~ or at least know the direction they want to go. If the salmon didn't have it's instinct to tell it where to go, in no way would it overcome the strong currents of the rivers ~ it wouldn't have the motivation. Free spirits take personal positions that are supported by their faith and reinforced by the Holy Spirit who orientates them, strengthens and encourages them. These are people who experience God in the moment, day by day and for this reason it doesn't matter to them if they take risks, because they live with this intensity.
