Vision for Mission
Being an international missionary order, the Comboni Missionaries face, in each community, a variety of sensitivities ~ different ways of speaking about mission, feeling mission... doing mission! We come from different churches and backgrounds, we are different in age and in culture. We are also sensitive to our presence in each continent where we are present, the needs and the situation especially of the poor.
It is a richness that we bring, not without some difficulties at times but with our focus on community and community life, we use our diversity and work toward integration ~ we all agree that we need a vision in our ministry and work, to be up-to date and well informed, able to inspire those we serve... We strive to involve all our various strengths and this leads us from diversity to integration to unity ~ believing in the principle that diversity is for the growth as well as the perfection of the one body we are as Comboni Missionaries.
We strive for a vision for mission by reinterpreting our tradition in the light of a new sensitivity for the signs of the Spirit and the documents of the Church. We must remember that the vision of mission we are looking for is rooted in Scripture, in mission theology and in the teachings of the Church and needs at least 3 basic characteristics; It must be:
1. Inspiring, namely able to stir up our best intuitions and energies that we have.
2. Renewing, able to sustain the dynamics of growth and renewal.
3. Unifying, able to persevere the unity in spite of any stress caused by the diversity of origin and the many different views and feelings.
