Presentation of the Lord

The Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas, is a feast celebrated in the Catholic Church on February 2nd, regardless of the day of the week. It commemorates the moment when Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem, following Jewish tradition, to present Him to God and offer a sacrifice. During this event, Simeon and Anna, two devout individuals, recognised Jesus as the Messiah.

This feast holds special significance as it highlights Jesus as the Light of the World. Traditionally, candles are blessed and carried in procession during the liturgy, symbolising Christ’s light dispelling the darkness.
